Maternity Center - Morristown, New Jersey

THE REQUEST:
Morristown Memorial Hospital (MMH) wanted to celebrate their newest arrival… the opening of their 34,000 square-foot Maternity Center. They retained Faith West Events (FWE) for their ability to deliver creative solutions when faced with unreasonable challenges – in this case, a difficult venue and multi-faceted objectives for the event.
The site for the venue involved new construction and on-going construction. To make the request even more challenging, the venue site was inside a regional trauma center, a location that required priority consideration be given to security, and the patients on-site.
The client stated several goals in order for the event to be declared as success. These included –
- The event had to be held on-site to highlight and promote the new facility.
- The event needed to attract the client’s target market of women of child-bearing age and their families.
- The event needed to demonstrate the high level of customer service and interaction patients would receive while also highlighting the technologically advanced environment of the new center
- The event must be an educational experience, while also inviting all attendees to have fun at the new center.
Each and every one of those goals and expectations were met and exceeded.

THE EVENT:
With the challenges at hand, F.W.E. gave birth to an event titled “It’s Your Birthday Party, And Ours” bringing to life the imagination of every child’s favorite birthday party.
An important intention that F.W.E sought to create for their client was to ensure that all attendees, not just the children, experienced their hospital visit a magical. As every child, parent, and grandparent entered the space, the assumed sterile environment quickly evaporated when they were greeted with a rousing and hearty “Happy Birthday!”
In order to meet the client’s goal of showcasing the whole center and educating residents about the new facility, various themed birthday parties were staged throughout the venue to engage the children while parents spoke to physician and nurses about the center.
The party themes included:
- A Pirate Party with palm trees, sand, treasure chests and parrots.
- A Sports Party with pennants, hot dogs, fresh pretzels, sport drinks, and popcorn.
- A Fiesta Party with a taco station, set against a backdrop of cactus, southwest blankets, piñata’s, sombreros, and beautiful flamenco guitar music;
- A Construction Party with a Giant 10’ tool box with giant sized tools as well as stacking blocks, trucks and toy ambulances
- A Thomas the Tank Engine Party, including a train mural, railway floor mats for children to play, trains and even a conductor.
- A Fairy Tale party with Cinderella’s castle brought to life. Children could play dress up and have their photo take with a knight, princess or even court jester.
- A Chef’s party where children could also decorate their own birthday cup cake in two patient rooms that were transformed into a children’s bakery.
- A High School Musical party for the older guests - nothing was better than going to the High School Musical party and auditioning for the school musical (complete with Mrs. Darfus).

THE IMPACT & BENEFITS
The party successfully drew over 550 members of the community to the opening of the new maternity center, most of whom toured the center, patient rooms, and got a firsthand look at the new facility. Six months post-event, patient numbers had grown by 75% over the previous year, with the event being proclaimed as one of the key reasons for the increase. The unique event was successfully staged without any disruption to patient care. The event not only garnered several letters and emails from grateful attendees, but also obtained favorable PR in the local newspaper proclaiming its success.
